Does oil help soften the beard? Beard oils are ideal for preventing bristle hair from developing. However, it comes down to the entire grooming process to soften a beautiful beard.

Can I also use beard oil on a 3-day beard? Yes, because the beard oil is not only suitable for the hair, but also for the hairy area of the face.

A beard looks very masculine and changes many a man’s appearance radically. But what use is the new look with a beard if the partner keeps complaining about the scratchy hair when kissing? To make these problems a thing of the past, we will show you in our article how to soften a beard and keep it in great condition.

1. A beard needs care

Washing hair is a matter of course for almost every man, and it helps to keep both hair and beard healthy right down to the hair follicles. When it comes to the care of the beard, however, it looks very different. Regular care is necessary
so that a full beard not only grows, but also remains beautifully supple. This starts with washing and extends to combing and using beard oil. Basically, however, you should first realize that a beautiful beard means work. It is not a given that whiskers are soft.

There are basically two aspects that are responsible for hard and bristle-like whiskers:

  • Insufficient or incorrect care: To get your beard hair soft again, you will not be able to avoid purchasing some beard care products. In this way you provide your hair with enough moisture to protect it as best as possible from environmental influences.
  • Unhealthy diet: Not only missing oils are responsible for too dry, brittle and hard beard hair. If the right nutrients are missing to nourish the hair from the inside, the best care cannot work properly.

Caution: It is best not to use aftershaves that contain alcohol, as alcohol removes moisture from the whiskers.

2. Soften a beard – it’s this simple

Fortunately, it is quite easy to get whiskers soft again if they haven’t been damaged too much. For this you need a beard shampoo, a conditioner, a beard oil or a suitable balm and a beard brush .

2.1. Wash your beard regularly

Good to know: It is best to wash your face and beard before shaving. In this way, you prevent infections caused by micro-injuries and suffer less from skin irritations and pimples. If your beard hair is not sensitive and you have a healthy diet, washing your beard every 2 to 3 days is sufficient. But with sweating after doing sport or a workout, or in a particularly dirty or dusty environment, clean your beard more often. To do this:

  • Get the beard really wet and lather it.
  • Let the shampoo work for 1 to 2 minutes and then rinse off the shampoo residue with plenty of water.
  • If the beard is washed out thoroughly, use the conditioner.
  • Massage this in as well. In this way you protect your cleaned beard hair from drying out.
  • After that, wash off the conditioner and gently dry your beard with a towel.

2.2. Soften a beard after washing

Beard care is best done after cleaning. If the beard hair is still damp, this offers the perfect opportunity for intensive care. Now take a beard oil or a balm and massage the product into your beard.

Please use only a small amount of oil at this point to soften a beard hair. If you use too much oil, your beard will shine but the hair looks rather greasy and unkempt.

About 5 drops of beard oil are sufficient for a medium-length beard . If you only have a 3-day beard, you can get by with 2 drops of the oil.

As long as the whiskers are still slightly damp, they absorb the oil better, making them softer and more supple. In addition to the purely caring aspect, beard oils usually contain different scents, which means that your beard gets even more attention.

Attention: If split ends have already formed in the beard, you should first trim the beard significantly before you deal with softening your beard hair.

2.3. The beard comb as an aid

A brush or beard comb will help you distribute the oil better through your hair. A beard comb is particularly useful for medium-length or long beards , a brush for shorter to medium-length beards.

If you only have a very short beard that you want to maintain, it is sufficient to spread the beard oil with your fingertips.

By the way, beards don’t just make you attractive. Some studies show that men with beards are also perceived as more competent.

3. Soften a beard with home remedies – this is how it works

Unfortunately, most beard grooming products aren’t bargains. However, if you would rather spend your money on something else, you can first try a few home remedies that are comparatively cheap. The following home remedies can be used to soften the beard:

  • Olive oil : Some manufacturers of cheaper beard oils also use olive oil as a base.
  • Coconut oil: If you use organic coconut oil, you not only ensure beautiful care, but you can also look forward to a pleasant coconut scent.

Please note, however, that less is more. Always use oil sparingly. This way you can get your beard soft without it looking greasy and unkempt.

4. How to soften a beard – treating a 3-day beard

Beard oil is also suitable for short beards.

Even a 3-day beard needs to be looked after. The daily facial cleansing should therefore be mandatory. In this way you also prevent pimples and blackheads, as excess fat is removed.

After washing, apply a face cream to the skin and stubble. In order to soften the stubble, which can become very hard with regular trimming, a massage with beard oil is recommended. Simply massage the oil into the beard area with your fingertips. Don’t worry, you will also do something good for your facial skin.

Tip: It is best to use beard oil immediately after trimming. This way you don’t give the remaining stubble a chance to become hard.
