  • ½ Cup Shea butter
  • ¼ Cup Coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp beeswax or 1 3/4 tbsp carnauba wax
  • 20 drops of Citronella oil
  • 10 drops of essential peppermint oil
  • 10 Tropics Essential Lemon Oil
  • 10 drops of Essential Lemongrass Oil

Preparation

  1. Set up a water bath and gently melt the shea butter with the coconut oil and wax of your choice.
  2. Stir well during the melting process, so that the oil can mix and nothing can settle later.
  3. Remove the oil mixture from the water bath and add the essential oils.
  4. Pour the finished lotion into small silicone moulds and cure them either at room temperature or in the fridge.

Citronella as a reliable mosquito repellent

Citronella oil is extracted from the leaves of the lemon grasses. It serves primarily as a natural mosquito repellent for the inhabitants of Asia. For us humans, the scent is pleasantly lemony, while it becomes a deterrent to mosquitoes. 

Natural remedies to repel mosquitoes

Citronella oil is harmless to health and well tolerated. At any rate, make sure that the Citronella oil is pure and of high quality when purchasing. If your mosquito lotion bars don’t protect enough from mosquitoes, you can also carefully melt them down and add more Citronella oil. It is just a matter of determining what amount deters the species of mosquitoes you are dealing with!
