Hornets – wrongly feared
Most people know relatively little about hornets and are afraid that a hornet bite can cause serious damage or even be fatal. This widespread myth, however, is nonsense. The sting of a hornet is no more dangerous than that of wasps, bees or bumblebees.
However, the sheer size as well as the striking colour scheme make the insect seem quite dangerous. On average, hornets are about 2 to 2.5 cm tall. A hornet queen can also grow up to 3.5 cm tall.
Hornets are not always recognizable at first glance. Even if a hornet in the apartment is certainly not nice, so you don’t have to panic. Only allergy sufferers should pay special attention.
Unlike wasps, hornets are not aggressive and aren’t interested in your cake. Rather, the hornet is often found in the room when it is dark.
Since hornets continue to fly after dusk, they may be attracted by light. So first clear the light and wait a moment to evict hornets. As a rule, the hornet quickly disappears through an open window and the horror is over.
Hornets usually only sting when they feel threatened. Therefore, approach a hornet’s nest only carefully and do not strike after the animals.
How to remove a hornet in the home

To do this, it’s best to take a large glass and put it over the hornet with a single quick movement. Don’t panic if you miss the hornet, but slowly retreat a little and try again a short time later. If you have caught the hornet in the glass, take a piece of paper, hold it on the other side and let the hornet fly outside again. It is best not to do this directly at the window, as the still somewhat disoriented hornet otherwise lands all too quickly in the room and the same game starts again.
