Ways to prevent cat boredom in your absence
Let’s be honest: if you’re alone all the time, it can get quite boring, right? And just watching TV isn’t exactly the answerg. And now imagine you’re a cat that has to spend most of the day alone. Not very pleasant, do you not also find? Of course, this does not mean that you are not allowed to keep a cat just because you are working. It’s more about thinking about how to keep your cat busy during your absence. Because cats, who are alone and get bored, quickly come up with stupid ideas — like scratching the furniture. You also don’t have to be surprised if flower pots from the window sill find their way to the floor or the sofa corner is scratched. So follow our tips to to
Tip 1 – Get two cats
If you are on the road all day, it is best to buy two cats. Hardly at home, but keeping two cats? This certainly sounds weird to you now, but consider: If there are two cats in the house, they can deal with each other. The two playmates will always find a way to pass the time.
Tip 2 – Set up a scratch tree
If you can’t keep a second cat, you have to think about something else. One idea, for example, would be to set up a scratch tree. Such cat trees offer not only opportunities for scratching, but also for playing, climbing and sleeping. In retail, you have the choice not only between different-height models, but also between models with different playing possibilities. For example, you will find both simple, medium-height models with a sleeping and viewing area, as well as floor-to-ceiling models that almost resemble a small playground.
Tip 3 – Hide cat pillows in the house
Cat pillows are small cloth pillows, which are often filled with catnip and valerian root. Hide several such pillows in the house or your apartment, your cat goes on a taster tour and has an adeventure. The combination of catnip and valerian root also stimulates the instinct of the velvet paws. You can find instructions on how to sew the herbal pillows yourself online.
Tip: If you sew a few more pillows, you can also fill them with lavender or the like and hang them in the cupboard as a scented bag.
Tip 4 – Offer toys
In addition to a scratch ingenuary, you can also offer your Stubentiger toys. Balls with bells, plush mice or logic games are the most useful. You can even build the latter yourself in the form of a so-called “cat fumble”.
Tip 5 – Set up a window spot
Just as we humans like watching TV, cats love to sit at the window and watch everything. So it is best to vacate a window sill in your apartment completely free, so that your cat can “tv”.
Important: Prepare your home well
Before you leave your cat alone, you shouldn’t just think about how she can deal with it on her own. It is also important that you prepare your apartment well for the absence. So always think of the following points:
- provide enough water and cat food
- offer several cat toilets
- Remove toxic plants from the apartment
- Closing windows
If you pay attention to all these points, your cat will not miss anything and she will feel comfortable even during your absence.
