Buy a chopping board? That’s not the way for real do-it-yourselfers. A nice piece of solid wood, an hour in the workshop and the kitchen board is ready! Here is how to easily make a chopping board.
The project can be implemented without many tools, because the sawing and grinding is also done by hand. Wood is anything that is hard: oak, ash, beech, nut or exotic woods. Building the chopping board is also quite fast, you should plan for a good hour.
The best thing about the home-made chopping board: It is an absolutely unique piece that can not be bought like this. There are no limits to your creativity. In our example, we made a cutting board with geometric shapes and interestingly cut oak edges.
Wood that comes into contact with food should only be treated with natural and non-toxic wood preservatives – such as vegetable linseed oil. It penetrates deeply into the wood and seals the pores against moisture. Attention: Cloth soaked with linseed oil can ignite itself. Therefore, it is essential to allow it to dry outside on a fireproof surface and dispose of it in airtight packaging.
You need this for the cutting board
Material:
Oak plank approx. 25 x 40 cm, thickness approx. 2.5 – 3 cm
Leather strap approx. 25 cm long
Linseed oil and cloth rags
Sandpaper 120 and 240
Wooden board as a drilling pad
Tools: Drilling machine (preferably in the drill stand), eccentric sander, Forstner drill 30 mm, circular saw or hand saw, optional: router or edge trimmer
Build a chopping board yourself: Instructions
1. With 120er grain smooth the surface. Later you have to sand the sawed board with 240 grit.

2. Mark the desired shape on the board and immediately place the hole for hanging.

3. Saw the shape roughly with the (hand) circular saw. The cuts we have set free from the belly out.

4. Cut the sides freely with a 45 ° adjustment. This creates the interesting edges.

5. Using a 30mm hole saw bit or spade bore, drill the hole for the suspension, placing an old board underneath.

6. Pull the leather strap through the hole, treat the surface with linseed oil and the new board for the kitchen is ready.
