You need:
- 8 sandwich bags
- Double-sided tape or a glue stick
- Perforator
- scissors
- Nature tape
Steps to make stars from paper sandwich bags
Step 1: Glue the first two bags together
First you put a lunch bag in front of you with the opening up. Then stick an inverted “T” on the bag with the tape or glue stick. A central line from top to bottom and a horizontal adhesive line on the closed side of the bag.

Step 2: Glue on additional sandwich bags
Then you glue the next bag in the same position on it – you do this with the rest until all 8 lunch bags stick together.
Step 3: fold
Now you fold the bags once in half and once in length – then you fold a pointed “jag” on the open side of each bag.
Step 4: This is how your star gets a great shape
Grab a pair of scissors and cut along the fold lines!
Step 5: Fan out your sandwich bag star
Fan the poinsettia apart, lay the first and last pages together and punch them at the tip of the point. To prevent the paper from tearing later, you can reinforce the lunch bag star at this point with an adhesive film.
Step 6: hang up the stars
Finally, thread a ribbon through the perforated area and hang up your homemade poinsettia.
Where can you buy sandwich bags?
To craft your poinsettias you need classic sandwich bags. You can find them in drugstores, well-stocked supermarkets and in craft stores. Since they are usually available in large packs, it is a very cheap Christmas decoration – with our pack from the drugstore, we were even able to fold ten sandwich bag stars!

What I particularly liked about the stars made from sandwich bags is the effect on the window. I tried the instructions with bags in different sizes and folded a lot of different poinsettias in this way. By the way, there are no limits to the design of your stars. How about, for example, colored paper bags or self-painted patterns? With a little practice, you can even cut small details so that your sandwich bag stars almost look like snow crystals.
