On average, an ideal apartment will be at least 90 m2 in size and have at least four rooms. In reality, singles and couples are often only able to afford — and be content with — a two- to maximum three-room apartment, although the square meterage is not particularly lavish. Strategies to make space in a small room
1. Use flexible furniture
If multiple claims are made to a single room, such as:
- Working on the computer
- Relaxing on the couch
- Friends and family received
- Eating and sleeping
then creative solutions are needed. One possibility in such a case is a multifunctional sofa bed. This allows you to create seating, relaxation lounge and sleeping facilities at the same time.
Another space-saving residential idea is a stool, but not just any, but a multifunctional one. A stool with lid offers plenty of storage space inside. Some models are already available with a tray and rollers on. This allows you to move it back and forth in the room as needed and use it as a small table.
2. Skillfully create storage space
Tip: Cabinets and shelves should best reach just below the ceiling to take full advantage of the space in height and save in depth. Do you have both living and sleeping in the same room? Then use high shelves as a room divider to make space in a small room!
In narrow corridors or spaces, it is difficult to open massive cupboard doors and drawers. With little space, shelves are better suited for storage, which can also be combined with decorative boxes against dusting. Whole shelving systems, which can be individually adapted to the conditions of the home. Especially with corner and hanging shelves, a lot of additional storage space can be created and thus small rooms can be set up in a space-saving manner. Without a computer, almost nothing can be done today. A large tower doesn’t do so well in small rooms. Better you use a laptop. This can also be placed wonderfully in a ‘secretary cabinet’. 4. Sideboards make small spaces visually larger
Where once chunky walls adorned the living room, today there are filigree sideboards. These are ideal for setting up small rooms! In addition to the usual living utensils, the TV can also be accommodated there. You can fill the free space above it with shelves and create more storage space without making the room look overloaded.
5. Large dining table only if needed
Visitors would like to be invited to a large dining table. However, if it is rarely used in everyday life, it gives away an unnecessarily high amount of space. A pull-out table and stacking chairs, enlarge the small dining area if necessary. Alternatively, folding chairs are available. These simply store in the basement until they are needed again. If you don’t have a basement, hang the chairs folded up on the wall.
