1. With vanilla sugar you can refine dishes

When making desserts, many rely on the aroma of the vanilla pod — the bean of the vanilla orchid. This is usually added to the dessert in the form of vanilla sugar. Vanilla sugar can be bought in small bags. Admittedly, this is not too expensive. At least not if you only need a small bag from time to time. However, if you use it regularly, then it will be very well done. So the solution to this problem is to make the vanilla sugar yourself. We have written here for you a step-by-step guide on how to do this.

2. Make a homemade vanilla sugar recipe – step by step instructions

Step 1:
For the production of vanilla sugar, of course, you need vanilla pods. These can be found in every bakery department. When buying, make sure that the vanilla pods have a purple-brown to dark brown color and are also soft, spotless and oily. For 500 grams of vanilla sugar you need about 3 to 4 vanilla pods.

Step 2:
To make the vanilla sugar you need a lockable container. It is best to store the vanilla sugar in a screwed glass. You need to clean this thoroughly beforehand, as sugar can quickly absorb foreign odours. Dry the glass well.

Step 3:
Now cut the vanilla pods lengthways and scrape out the vanilla paste. Then cut the scraped-out vanilla pods into small pieces.

Step 4:
Now put the podpieces in the sugar. Mix well and then fill in the glass you washed out beforehand. You must close the glass tightly and then leave it to rest for a week. That’s how long it takes for the sugar to absorb the vanilla flavor. For a more intense taste, you should let the glass rest even longer. The great thing about the whole thing is that you can always pour sugar into the glass. The vanilla pods give off their spicy aroma to the sugar for several months.

3. Do not throw away the vanilla paste

In contrast to the vanilla sugar purchased, the self-produced sugar is of course much better, because real vanilla is used here. With vanilla sugar from the bag, only vanilla aromas are often found in it. With this method you always have enough vanilla sugar in the house. Just refine whipped cream, pastries, cakes or sweet sauces with your homemade vanilla sugar. You will taste the difference to the purchased vanilla sugar. Your food will now taste much more aromatic. By the way, you should not throw away the scraped-out vanilla paste. However, you should use it immediately after scraping out.
