How to erase Facebook posts
Before you start, it is important to understand what happens when you delete a post.
- On desktop, selecting “Move to Trash” sends the post to a recycle bin where it stays for 30 days before permanent deletion.
- On mobile, however, some deletion methods bypass the trash and remove the post immediately.
- You also have the option to “Archive” a post, which hides it from everyone else but keeps it visible only to you on your private archive.

The process for how to erase posts on Facebook on a desktop or laptop is identical for both Windows and macOS users. You simply need a web browser.
Deleting a Single Post
1. Locate the Post: Go to your Facebook profile and scroll down to find the post you want to remove.
2. Open the Menu: Click the three-dot menu icon (…) in the top-right corner of the post box.
3. Select Removal Option: Choose Move to Trash. Facebook will confirm that the post will be permanently deleted after 30 days.

Important Note on Mobile Deletion: If you use the bulk method on mobile, posts are typically moved to the Recycle Bin and can be restored within 30 days. If you delete individual posts from your main feed, they may be gone permanently.
Key differences and recovery
The main difference between platforms is the safety net. Desktop deletions and bulk mobile deletions generally send items to the Recycle Bin for 30 days. Single mobile deletions are often immediate.
If you accidentally delete a post via the Trash/Recycle Bin method, you can recover it by going to Activity Log > Trash (or Recycle Bin), selecting the post, and clicking Restore within that 30-day window. After 30 days, the content is gone for good.
