Whether it’s a gold ring, gold chain or even a gold-plated watch: gold jewelry makes a lot of impact, especially when it already shines. Unfortunately, even this high-quality material becomes blunt and starts over time. To make your gold shine again, we’ve collected some clever household tips to clean gold properly.

1. Free gold jewellery from coarse dirt and sebum

Gold is a high-quality and resistant material. Simple gold chains or gold rings can therefore be worn very well in everyday life. But just then, a lot of fine dirt, sweat or sebum is deposited from the skin on the jewels of gold. Therefore, you should not clean your gold until it is blunt or started, but also regularly remember to clean your gold jewelry in everyday life.

Conventional dishwashing agent already provides good help. Simply place the gold or gold jewelry in a lukewarm water bath with detergent. Grease and dirt detach from the metal. Then polish the jewelry and enjoy the new shine

An alternative is gentle cleaning with an onion. She provides first aid for blunt gold objects:

  • Take a fresh onion and rub with the interface the areas of gold that have become blunt.

Another home remedy is cleaning with aluminium foil and salt. Heat salted water in a saucepan and transfer it to a container into which you have previously placed a piece of aluminium foil. Add your gold items and wait ten minutes. Now take out the jewels and polish.

3. Toothpaste

Attention: It is better to refrain from cleaning with vinegar. The acid may be too aggressive for the material.
Commercially available toothpaste helps you clean gold. Just make sure that there are no abrasive particles in the toothpaste. These could otherwise scratch the beautiful gold jewelry.

Take an old toothbrush and gently rub the gold. Then rinse the toothpaste again and polish.

For polishing, you can get a special polish for gold.

Kukident, the cleaner for the third teeth, can also be used for gold jewellery. This cleaner reliably removes dirt without being too aggressive.

Simply loosen the denture cleaner in a bowl or a glass of water and place the gold jewelry or gold coins in. Let the cleaner work for a while and then clean the items again with a soft cloth.

This method is also particularly suitable for rose gold or white gold beads. When they soak in the liquid, every angle of the beads is detected and cleaned.

4. Clean gold properly with ultrasonic device

If you have old gold objects that have started strongly, cleaning with ultrasound is particularly reliable. You can either get an ultrasound device yourself or bring your coins or your gold jewellery to the jeweller. There, the gold is professionally cleaned and you experience your gold objects in a new splendour.

The same applies to the cleaning of silver. If you only wear real jewellery, you can purchase your own ultrasonic device.
