Fireplace cleaning – prevention measures
In order not to have to constantly clean the fireplace or the chimney disc, it is recommended to take some preventive measures. Persistent soot coverings can be prevented with so-called seals. Although soot still forms on the disc, it is no longer as much and it is much easier to remove.
Another measure is the use of very dry wood, since still slightly damp wood usually burns with greater soot formation. In addition, the ignition should be done in such a way that a proper fire is immediately ignited in order to avoid an increased soot formation by glowing wood.
Tip: The tips are also useful if you want to clean your heavily soiled oven window.
Contaminated fireplaces are caused by the soot that is produced during burning. The black coverings are getting more and more dirty in the chimney glass, so that you have to clean the glass and the stove in order to be able to enjoy the sea of flames undisturbed again in the future. There are various tips on the topic of fireplace cleaners with home remedies, which we would like to introduce to you here.
Clean the fireplace easily – How to do it
Before you clean your glass panes from the fireplace or even buy a new pane, it is recommended to look for the reason for possibly too much soot. It is possible that chimney maintenance by the chimney sweep is necessary because the combustion in the chimney does not work optimally.
An optimally adjusted fireplace keeps soot away from the chimney glass as much as possible when the oxygen supply is optimal. If the combustion works properly, the chimney glass cleaning is not necessary as often. If the oven is technically flawless, you can clean the fireplace window or clean the sliding door as follows.
Step 1: Roughly remove ash
First, you need to remove the ash that is in the oven and has settled on the disc. It is best to remove the ashes with a small broom before using other means.
Step 2: Use fireplace glass cleaner
In the case of heavy soiling caused by soot, a special glass cleaner is a suitable agent, for example in the form of active foam. However, since these chimney cleaners are very aggressive, you should definitely wear protective gloves and make sure that the product does not reach the skin directly. Direct inhalation of the cleaner vapours should also be avoided during use. Spray the cleaner onto the chimney insert including the disc and pay attention to a distance of at least 20 centimetres.
Step 3: Leave it for a while before you wipe it
Leave the glass cleaner on for about 20 minutes. After the change-in time, the dirt layer can usually be wiped with a paper towel. To prevent the floor around the fireplace from being polluted during cleaning, you should lay out enough newsprint beforehand. Thus, the cleaning agent, which often drips down when cleaning the chimney inserts, cannot flow to the floor and cause unpleasant stains.
Use extra-fine steel wool together with oven cleaner when cleaning your burnt-in soot.
Home remedies to clean a fireplace easily
Your chimney disc is still not clean properly after cleaning? Before changing the glass plate or chimney pane, you should always first try to see if the soot is not to be removed by cleaning. You can use home remedies for the chimney pane cleaning, which may even have a better effect than chemical cleaners. We have 5 tips for you on how to make your chimney disc shine again.
Tip 1: Clean the chimney disc – abrasive powder
The glass, which is contaminated by soot in the fireplace, can also be cleaned with abrasive powder and glass ceramic cleaner. When brushing the fireplace glass with abrasive powder, however, it is very important that you do not rub too hard so that the glass is not damaged.
Tip 2: Clean sooted fireplace window
Is the chimney disc burnt in and very difficult to rid of the dirt? Maybe rim cleaners will help, which you may even have in stock in your garage. Rim-genre iniger has been specially developed for oil-containing contaminants and is therefore also suitable if the chimney disc is sooted. But also make sure that you use a soft sponge without abrasive particles when cleaning your burnt-in chimney disc.
Tip 3: Clean the fireplace with oven spray
You can also use conventional oven spray for chimney glass cleaning or chimney window cleaning. Especially if it is only lighter dirt, this spray is a suitable means to clean the stove. Proceed in the same way as described in the guide to the stove cleaner above.
Tip 4: Ash and newsprint
If the widow is sooted, you can also use ash and newsprint to fight the dirt. The good thing is that it is completely free and still effective when the window is burned. However, you may only use the wood ash, as the ash of burnt coal can cause scratches in the glass. To clean, you must first lightly moisten the newsprint and then rub it over the dirty window with a little ash. Repeat until the soot is completely gone.
Tip 5: Toothpaste
You can also use toothpaste to clean your fire window. In the case of toothpaste, however, care must be taken to ensure that no abrasive particles are contained so that no unsightly scratches occur in the glass.
Whether cleaning the oven window or cleaning the fireplace window – with a highly effective chimney window cleaner or one of the home remedies presented here, the whole thing is guaranteed to be done quickly and you can really enjoy the next fireplace again.
