Steps to build a garbage can planter box

First of all, we have built slat elements from inexpensive wood (20° slanted), which are held from behind by three strips and painted weatherproof with glaze. The roof is a tub made of film slab (18 mm) with planed spruce boards as edge and a waterproof liner.

The slat elements were fastened with “L-fittings” to buttresses, which were fastened to their brainwood sides with stainless steel threaded rods. These are simply camouflaged with overlaid aluminium pipes. The lower rods should be about 50 cm long, as they are also ground anchors.

Body discs made of stainless steel above and below the aluminium sleeve distribute the pressure on the posts and floor and prevent them from drilling into the wood or the substrate. The best thing to end: With planting, we only spent around 180 euros on the dream ton hiding place.

Sketch with dimensions

In these drawings you can find all the measurements and see how the garbage can hiding place is constructed.

Detailed drawing for louvre mounting: All strips on the side parts are covered, i.e. screwed from behind. The strips are bevelled 20° at their backside.

Instructions

To assemble the strips, you saw blocks from a groin residue, which ensure the right distance when mounting.

All posts are drilled on the brainwood side for 12 mm threaded rods, which are glued 10 cm deep with construction adhesive

In the ground, the threaded rods are anchored 20 to 30 cm deep (point foundation).

Sides and posts are connected with L-connectors.

The hinges must be placed on the post so that the door turns in front of the posts.

The roof sides are pushed onto the bottom plate by an imprinted lattice and nailed from above, the corners are glued.

Cut out the water drain with a 40 mm hole saw and cut the foil in a star-shaped shape, fix with the pipe in the hole.
