The future of work is constantly changing, and while certain aspects of a job are here to stay, others may disappear within several years. The attitude towards the changes generally put people into two camps with polar opinions. While one camp is welcoming the future, the other camp is getting overly paranoid with the prospects of losing their jobs.

Both of those generations are more concerned with the positive impact their work can bring, and with finding their dream job, rather than just salary rates. 

Leadership Won’t Be The Same

The traditional idea of leadership is based on tenure and wisdom. Employees were spending years and decades to be promoted to leading positions. But things have changed for the future of work. Technological advances force businesses to be more competitive. And things are changing rather quickly. No one has decades to gain the needed experience anymore. 

The largest corporations realize that years of experience is just one of the aspects that make a great leader. Thus, the idea of leadership changes its focus from tenure to aptitude. A great leader can be of any age if they are apt. But that doesn’t mean that experience is no longer valid. 

It doesn’t mean that baby boomers with several decades of experience are going to be thrown out in favor of those who know more about modern gadgets. Their wisdom is still going to be utilized. Just don’t expect to become a CEO in the future of work just because you’ve been in the business longer than anyone else. 

Workplace and Working Hours

Most of the employees in the future of work are no longer office-bound. The companies quickly realized that there are only several occupations that require spending time at the office. The boom of remote jobs started in the 2010s. And the COVID-19 pandemic showcased the benefits of working remotely. But there are certain problems connected to it as well. 

Your home becomes your office in the future of work, and you’re constantly receiving messages, emails, notifications, calls. The current model of top-down leadership originated from the early industrial era. Companies at that time really needed only a few desk workers and legions of manual laborers. And the main methods of leaders were control and fear. Control the laborers with the fear that they may lose their job. 

But technological advances challenge the pyramid organization in the future of work. While there are still companies that retain the old formula of inducing fear, their forward-thinking counterparts are adopting an open environment that empowers employees to be more creative. 

As mentioned above, millennials and zoomers are concerned with the impact of their work. And companies will only benefit from letting them be more autonomous and creative. Encouraging your employees to share their creative ideas can lead to the rapid growth of the business. 

The companies of the future, ideally, won’t control their employees but help them discover their potential, which can be beneficial for everybody. Certain agencies are already abandoning the top-down attitude to leadership. And, who knows, maybe in the future of work, the top-down pyramid will become nothing but an artifact of the past.

The changes in the future of work are inevitable, and their inevitability is what makes them seem scary. But in the end, the way the work is changing is only beneficial.
