How to train a cat to use a human toilet

Train a cat to use a human toilet

There is an innovation in the animal world, which allows you to train a cat to use a human toilet as well. These are in the form of inserts, which make it easier for cats to go to the toilet and can also be replaced at any time. Very useful for apartments that don’t have an outside area for a cat litter box when you can train your cat to do this!

Train a cat to use a human toilet: how it works

The cats can learn how to use the toilet through 5 progressive steps with a ‘cloister set’ that sits on your human toilet seat and has increasingly large openings.

You can also train several cats to use the same cat cloister. Never force your cats to learn quickly, because the training should also be fun. Depending on the cat type, the training can take 5-8 weeks.

How old should the cat be for training? A cat should be at least 3 months old so that you can train with it. Younger cats lose balance on a human toilet.

How does the set work?

  • Hang the set with the cat litter over the toilet bowl.
  • Cat litter can fall into the toilet, even if the set has a device that prevents this. Cats usually hide their excretions in the sand – but this is superfluous when cats use the human toilet. You can educate the cats to stop scurrying and pawing the litter.
  • Always press the rinse when your cats have used the toilet. So the cats realize that in this way their business disappears.
  • Gradually change the inserts (the hole can get bigger and bigger). Use gradually the inserts with larger openings.
  • The cats have become accustomed to the human toilet when the inserts are exhausted.
  • Then you can remove the set altogether and the cat will use your normal toilet seat.

Pros: They no longer need cat litter and no longer unpleasant odours arise. And best of all, the cats will never visit their old cat toilet again, but will always use the practical human toilet.

General information about the cat toilet

Forcing cats to the toilet would be a punishment and should be avoided as much as possible. However, in order to make it easier for cats to accept the toilet passage (to the normal toilet), a few useful rules can be made:

The litter should be fine, but not fragrant. The toilets should be separated from each other when several cats are kept. Cats in their natural state always do their business outdoors and in nature at a certain distance. Of course, you need to clean the toilet regularly. Cats avoid toilets that have been used several times. Cats don’t like that.
