The Amazon Echo offers practical features when it comes to burglary protection and room surveillance. How to use the Alexa features is explained in this practical tip outlining the Amazon Alexa.

Alexa Guard – successfully scare off burglars

With Alexa Guard you have the ability to deter intruders and use your Amazon Echo as an alarm system.

With the voice command “Alexa, I go.” you can focus the echo of this Alexa features. Alexa now listens to smoke detectors and burglary noise, like splintering glass. In case of a break-in, you will be notified.

If you also own an Echo Show, you will receive a live image from the room.
Also handy is the command “Alexa, start burglar deterrents.”. Your Amazon Echo will now emit sounds from either people in the living room, kitchen, bathroom or office, as well as dogs. People listening at the door or window think that someone’s home.

Use Alexa as room surveillance

With your Amazon Echo you can also “listen in” to different rooms.
First, turn down the volume completely.
Then start a call with the echo to another device. Now you can hear from another room or from afar into the room. This is useful, for example, if you need a baby monitor.

Turn off the light ring

The light ring of the Amazon Echo shows with its color and the blink rate exactly what Alexa is doing. If the voice assistant listens, the ring lights blue, for example, it flashes green, but a call is received.

If you disturb the constant glow, you can only switch off the ring in one way:
To do this, unplug the Amazon Echo from the power supply to completely turn off the device. So far it is not possible to deactivate the light ring and use Alexa at the same time. The reason: The light ring should show you exactly when Alexa listens and when not.

Tip: If you only want to disable the microphone, press the left button on your Amazon Echo, which shows a crossed-out microphone. Then the light ring glows red and Alexa is deactivated.
