In order to continue using your old Skype account on Windows 8 and 10, or to set up Skype on a PC with a new account but without a Microsoft account, you need the traditional desktop version of Skype. Follow these steps to install them.
- Close the Skype Modern app and remove it from the tile overview. Uninstall the program completely.
- Download Skype for Windows from the Skype home page.
- Perform the installation as usual.
- Start Skype from the desktop or start the newly installed Skype from the tile overview of the Modern-UI.
- You will be asked to sign in with a Microsoft account. You can just ignore this message. If you click on it, you will be able to log in easily with your old Skype name.
- Alternatively, create a new account. Again, you do not need a Microsoft account for this.
