How to reset AirPods and Airpods 2
You can easily restart in the usual Apple manner. However, this does not work on the headphones themselves. You also need the charging box for this. Pick up both parts and do the following:
- If your AirPods are still connected to an Apple device, first unpair them.
- On the iPhone you are going for to Settings > Bluetooth . Find your AirPods and tap the info icon ( i ) next to the entry.
- In the next window you choose Forget this Device . You confirm the indication whether you really want to do that.
- Put your AirPods in the charging case.
- Make sure that both the headphones and the charging case itself have a battery level of 100 percent. You can see this on the charging status display on the charging box. Simply open the lid of the box.
- Now you close the lid of the charging box.
- After 15 seconds you open the lid of the box again.
- Now take a look at the status indicator. It should blink white. If it doesn’t, press the set-up button on the back of the case until the status indicator flashes white.
- To reset your AirPods to the factory settings, press the Set-up button again. This time for at least 30 seconds.
- Do not release the button until it flashes yellow several times and then flashes white again. Then the reset was successful.
- You can then pair your headphones with your smartphone, Apple Watch or another device.
How to reset AirPods Pro
- Put your AirPods in their case and close the lid.
- Wait 30 seconds, then open the lid.
- On your iOS device, go to Settings -> Bluetooth and tap the circled “i” icon next to your AirPods.
- Tap Forget This Device, and tap again to confirm.
- With the AirPods case lid open, press and hold the button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds until you see the status light flashing amber.
- With the case lid open, place your AirPods close to your device and follow the steps on your device’s screen to reconnect your AirPods.
In these cases the reset will help you
A reboot solves the existing connection between your AirPods and other devices . After a reset it is therefore necessary to re-establish the connection. This may be a hassle, but doing a factory reset will help you with many small problems with your wireless headphones – for example the following.
Battery problems
Your AirPods don’t charge evenly and always show different battery levels? This is actually not a mistake at all, but wanted by Apple. Because each of the two headphones has its own battery – after all, you can use both separately. In this case, the second AirPod simply remains switched off in the charging case. That then saves energy.
Pairing with iPhone does not work
As a rule, communication between Apple devices works very well with one another. From time to time, however, it can happen that small errors creep in or the connection itself becomes slow.
For example, you may only hear something on one of the two headphones . Here the reset usually helps to fix the channel error.
What to do if a reset no longer helps?
Did you reset your AirPods to factory settings and reconnect them properly? And yet some things are not working properly? Perhaps the problem lies elsewhere.
Unfortunately, resetting does not always help. There can be many reasons for this that have nothing to do with the reset or deletion. One of the reasons could be that they actually have a real defect, i.e. that something is broken. For example, they may have fallen into the water and broken as a result. Or maybe someone stepped on it and some component inside broke. Then of course resetting cannot help you.
Batteries are worn out
Another reason can actually be that the batteries are simply used up. Batteries are naturally subject to a degeneration process and if you use your AirPods a lot and for a long time, it may well be that they simply no longer work after 2 years. Then, for example, the left AirPod no longer works. Even then, of course, you can’t do much with a reset.
Check the apps you are using
Sometimes certain apps can interfere with the connection between your headphones and your iPhone. Namely, if this access to the Bluetooth function of your smartphone . You don’t even need to actively use the annoying app – even if it’s running in the background, it can negatively affect your enjoyment of music.
Unfortunately, the only thing that helps here is trial: turn off all apps that have access to the Bluetooth function individually and one after the other. After each app, check whether the connection problems with your AirPods are now resolved. Usually only one app is to blame for the malfunctions.
Can reset AirPods be tracked?
It’s not good news. AirPods only give their location in Find My iPhone when they pair with your device. They have no built in GPS, or location tracker and no way to connect to the internet except through a paired iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.
If your AirPods have been stolen, the thief unfortunately is likely to reset them so they can sell them. But even if they didn’t reset them, you would not be able to track their location unless the thief walked by and remained in range of your device long enough for the AirPods to pair.
How to control Siri on the AirPods
Change the volume, play the next song or reveal the artist – Siri is happy to help you with all of this. To turn on voice to bring on board a sufficient double tap on the outside of the headphones , followed by the familiar “Hey Siri”. Now the Apple Assistant is there to help you with questions or specific settings.
Siri is no longer responding after reset?
If the smart voice control does not respond to your knocking on the headphones even after the reset, there may be various reasons: You may have programmed your AirPods so that they respond to the double tap with a completely different function. Or maybe you inadvertently prevented Siri from turning on when the iPhone is locked. You can easily check and change both.
To Siri when double tap on the headset to call back on the map, you go on your iPhone in the settings on Bluetooth > AirPods . Here you can under double-tap the point Siri select.
Want to make sure that Siri on a locked iPhone communicates with you, you’re going to Settings > Siri & Search. Here, the slider for Allow Siri in the off state should be set to green.
