It offers storage space and indirect light at the same time – but unfortunately it is not so easy to install a mirror cabinet in the bathroom. This guide shows how to do it.
When toothbrush cups and hygiene articles are on the sink, it can quickly look quite messy. A mirror cabinet can therefore be a very practical alternative to a normal mirror. In this you can not only look at it and style for the day, in a mirror cabinet you can also store small bathroom articles perfectly. In addition, mirror cabinets usually also provide light, so you don’t always have to turn on the large bathroom lights. But it is precisely where electricity and moisture meet that we must be careful. Therefore, with regard to electricity in the bath, three so-called protection areas are also defined in the US electrical standards.
Once the decision has been made for a suitable model, there is only one problem: assembly. But don’t think right away that you have to do without your mirror cabinet just because a drill has to be used. It’s not that hard. You just need to be careful and be able to hold a spirit level straight. Then your mirror cabinet is perfectly attached to the wall in no time.
How to clean a mirror without streaks
1. What you need for assembly:
- Mirror cabinet with accessories
- Tool: Drill (iron drill & stone drill)
- Level
- Measuring tape
- Screwdriver
- Pen
- transparent tape/crepe tape
- Vacuum cleaner
2. Instructions to install a mirror cabinet
Step 1:
Before you can really get started, you should first turn off the power for the bath. Also tell everyone in the household that they should not turn the electricity back on.
Step 2:
Now you have to ask yourself at what height you want to attach the mirror cabinet. Now measure the distance between the fixing openings at the mirror cabinet. You then have to use a water scale to mark exactly this distance on the bathroom wall.
Tip:
The best way to draw the holes is to draw the joints between the tiles. This makes drilling easier. Otherwise, draw the boreholes on the tiles.
Step 3:
If it does not work out that you can drill into the joints, you must now glue the marked areas with transparent tape, in case of need also crepe tape. This prevents the drill from slipping on the smooth surface or the tile from jumping.
Step 4:
Now it is best to measure the length of the dowels, which should later find their place in the bathroom wall. To drill deep enough, you must now add the length of the dowel to ten millimeters.
Now set the total length at the depth limiter of the drill or mark it with the help of a piece of adhesive tape on the iron drill and stone drill.
Step 5:
First, you should pre-drill the hole with the iron drill. But be careful, otherwise the tile can jump! Then drill again into the hole with the stone drill. Then remove tape and use the vacuum cleaner to remove all dirt on the floor and from the borehole.
Step 6:
Now put the plugs into the boreholes, screw in the fastening hooks and mount the bathroom mirror on them.
Step 7:
After installation, you must connect the power cable to the mirror cabinet. You should follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. Depending on the model, this is a little different. Otherwise, just ask someone who knows electrics for help. This is the only way to prevent a short circuit or even a fire.
Step 8:
Once everything is fixed and mounted, you can turn the power back on and enjoy your work.
