The elastic band in the edge of the bed sheet tightens it firmly on the mattress, but how do you fold fitted sheets easily?
Fitted bed sheets are suitable for several mattress sizes, because the ingenious all-round elastic stretches the sheet brilliantly. Wrinkles have a hard time. However, the elastic causes plenty of frustration when folding the fitted bed sheet. While a classic bed sheet can be easily folded without elastic, it seems impossible to assemble a fitted bed sheet wrinkle-free. But with the following technique, anyone can fold a fitted bed sheet.
There are different ways to fold a stretch bed sheet. The instructions described here are one of the best ways to fold fitted sheets easily.
Step 1 – preparation
Place the fitted bed sheet with the inside facing up longitudinally in front of you on a sufficiently large and flat base like a table. The corners are carded to the right.
Step 2 – the trick
Take two corners with one hand each, turn them to the left and place them in the opposite corner of the fitted bed sheet. The sheetis is halved lengthwise. Tighten or shake the sheets lightly with your hands in both corners so that the layers of fabric lie on top of each other without wrinkles.
Step 3 – the foldable rectangle
In front of you is now a rectangular structure. The hem forms a bow on it. Hit the left and right edges inward to create a straight-edge rectangle. Drag or swipe the edges smoothly.
Step 4 – wrinkle-free folding
You can now fold the fitted bed sheet as usual. Depending on the desired target size, halve or third the sheets. The result is a fold-free folded fitted bed sheet.
Drying fitted bed sheets
The rubber band in the hem of fitted sheets not only makes it difficult to assemble, but also to dry after washing. The rubber band forms stretching sheets along the hem and at the corners. The air circulates insufficiently in these areas and the substance releases moisture only slowly. In order to speed up the drying of a fitted bed sheet, the sheeting, especially the corners, must be clamped. This would be possible on a large clothes rack, but there is hardly any room for the rest of the laundry. If you call a tumble dryer your own, you don’t have to deal with this problem. The following alternatives help everyone else.
Drying fitted sheets: the chair trick
In order not to block the clothes rack, you can help yourself with four chairs. Place the chairs in a rectangle and place the stretch bed sheet over them. A chair in each clamping bed snail prevents the rubber from pulling the corners together. As a result, the clamping bed sheet dries faster. Two chairs are also sufficient for small stretch bed sheets. However, caution should be exercised with wooden chairs. The moisture from the sheets can damage unprotected wood. Chairs made of plastic, lacquered wood or metal are better suited.
Drying fitted sheets: the hanger trick
To allow the fitted sheets to dry quickly, you can hang the sheets on two hangers. The narrow sides of the fitted bed sheet are beaten by a handle. Through the rubber band, the sheet sits on the temples similar to a jacket. If the sheet is too large, you can fix the open side with brackets. Then hang the hangers with sheets on a clothesline. Pull the handles slightly apart so that the air can circulate better. On the free leash between the temples there is space for small pieces of laundry.
