This is part of our series on how to find the top holiday spots around the world by the calendar. These are the best holiday destinations for June. As with all our guides, we recommend you check all government travel warnings before you decide on a holiday destination.
Since in most countries the long summer holiday season does not start until the end of June at the earliest, you will usually still find cheap flight and accommodation options. If you like to travel outside the high season, June is the last chance for now. Because in July and August it can get really crowded in many places.
No matter how you want to travel and which continent you want to go to, there is something for everyone in the month of June. If you have further suggestions for destinations in June, we would be happy to comment.
Best holiday destinations for July
Original island feeling in Sardinia
Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean. Here you can discover both fantastic beaches along the coast as well as varied landscapes inland. Water sports enthusiasts will find many opportunities on the island to snorkel, dive, surf or even sail. In addition to a classic holiday on the beach, you can go hiking, climbing or even horseback riding in Sardinia. The island has been largely spared from mass tourism, which makes it one of the best holiday destinations for June.
During a Holiday in Sardinia in June, it rains only rarely and temperatures are increasingly approaching the 30 °C mark. The water temperature also heats up further after the winter/spring and now exceeds the 1920mark. Good omens for a quiet but eventful holiday. At the end of the month, however, the high season begins so slowly, which can be clearly reflected in the prices.

Best holiday destinations for June: in Asia
Mongolia
Mongolia is probably one of the most undervalued travel countries in Asia. You shouldn’t have missed it. For a real nature holiday, Mongolia is the perfect country: whether it is a visit to the Gobi desert in the south of the country with the largest sand dune in the world “Khongoryn Els”, or hiking through the Altai Mountains in the northwest of the country.
By the way, only three million people live in Mongolia, which is at the same time more than four times larger than Germany. But when you meet locals in the Mongolian province, you can be prepared for warm hospitality, which also leaves the language barrier behind.
In terms of weather, Mongolia is a land of extremes: temperature differences of over 30 degrees between day and night are nothing abnormal. Icy cold in winter alternates with the rain in summer. That’s why you should use June for your Mongolia trip – then it’s already pleasantly warm during the day, while the rainy days are still limited, making it one of the best holiday destinations for June.

Malaysia
The Perhentian Islands off the Malaysian northeast coast are among the country’s most popular destinations. Especially for a holiday in June, a trip to the two islands Besar and Kecil, which form the archipelago, is one of the best holiday destinations for June. While most of Southeast Asia is now in the middle of the wet monsoon season, you can holiday here in dry and warm weather.
Whether you want to take a quiet approach and relax on the beach lounger, or go snorkelling over the coral reefs – the calm, crystal clear water along the beaches offers plenty of possibilities. By the way, the beautiful Turtle Beach on Besar and, for partygoers, the Long Beach on Kecil are particularly recommended.
The easiest way to reach every beach on the island is with a so-called water taxi. Because there is almost no infrastructure in the Perhentian Islands, boats are, after all, the number one means of transport.

Best holiday destinations for June: Africa
Uganda & Rwanda
In June, the daily rainfall in Uganda and Rwanda decreased significantly after the rainy season. It is one of the driest months for these two African countries. Even if there will still be some showers, especially at higher altitudes, the humidity is much more bearable. The conditions for gorilla trekking are then “easier” in the Bwindi Impenertrable Forest – nevertheless, the region is and remains a rainforest.
Uganda and Rwanda are known for their guided gorilla trekking tours. In June, the paths into the mountains are largely stable. In the rainy season, they quickly turn into a particularly muddy and slippery affair.
A road trip through Uganda and Rwanda is and remains an unforgettable experience. For Africa lovers and adventurers an absolute “must do”.
Best holiday destinations for June: South, Central and North America
Guatemala
The state in Central America is on the rise as a holiday destination. The historicity of Guatemala alone is worth a trip: the ancient Mayan high culture has left its mark on the country. For this I highly recommend a visit to the abandoned Mayan city of Tikal in the north of the country. Tikal is located in the middle of the rainforest – to this day the huge temples of the city have been very well preserved.
But it’s not just the culture of the country that makes it exciting. Because Guatemala has several different climate zones, this also brings with it a great diversity of species in the flora and fauna. In the shallow coastal areas, the weather is rather subtropical with temperatures up to 40 degrees.
If it gets too hot for you, you can treat yourself to a “cooling off” in the highlands of Guatemala in the middle of the country. Here the weather is temperate all year round and more similar to the summer weather in Central Europe. Rarely does it cross the 30-degree mark and the nights are pleasantly cool. In the highlands, be sure to visit the city of Antigua Guatemala, which is a World Heritage Site because of its architecture.

Machu Picchu in Peru
If you prefer to experience the world of the Incas instead of Mayan culture, then go to Peru! Of course, the famous Inca city of Machu Picchu is the mandatory destination you should go here. Located 2300 meters above sea level at cloud level, not only the abandoned city itself is interesting – around you you will be able to enjoy an invaluable view of the neighbouring Andean peaks.
June is particularly suitable for a trip to Machu Picchu, because then the weather is dry and you get through the mountains better. Peru’s infrastructure is generally well developed, but in the rainy season, flooded mountain trails could make your tour in the Andes very difficult.
To reach Machu Picchu, it is best to choose the city of Cusco about 70km southeast as a starting point. Cusco was once the heart of the Inca Empire and still has much of the past splendour to offer. You should also plan for a few days.
Destinations in Australia in June
In Australia, everyone always thinks of flip flops, good weather and sea. But that’s not true in June. Because then it’s autumn and in many places it gets really cold especially at night. Then the best time to visit the Northern Territory, Western Australia and also the Red Center around Uluru.
Broome in Western Australia
If someone asked me about an epic sunset, the small coastal town of Broome in northern Western Australia would always come to mind. Feeling every evening you can experience a breathtaking sunset at Cable Beach. If you want to be too boring to chill out on the beach, you can plunge into the mostly small waves of the dry season or ride along the beach on a camel.
The destination Broome can be very well targeted as a starting or finishing point for a road trip through Western Australia. A drive from Broome to Darwin is also an excellent way to get an impression of the eternal expanses of Australia. But please remember to have enough water (20 l) and a spare canister of gasoline. Otherwise: Let the adventure begin!

Litchfield National Park in the Northern Territories
Litchfield National Park is one of australia’s most beautiful national parks. It is located just a short distance from Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory (90 km). Litchfield National Park is home to up to 6m termite hills, crocodile-free rock pools for swimming and some waterfalls.
Most of the destinations can be integrated very well into shorter hikes. If you like, you can also stay at the campsite in Litchfield Tourist Park. If you have more time to bring a holiday in June, then pack this national park as well as Broome on your travel list for a road trip through Australia.
