Many people swear by the fact that a vision board helped them make all of their dreams come true. You can find out how this works here.
You keep hearing how vision boards and the principle of visualization are generally praised to the sky. According to celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, a vision board is a real wonder weapon. It helps to keep your own dreams, wishes and goals in mind. This should motivate and ultimately help to convert dreams into goals and to realize them.
We’ll tell you exactly how this works and how you can create a vision board – with step-by-step instructions.
What is a vision board?
A vision board is basically a collage of pictures and sayings, sometimes even individual words. This collage then depicts your dreams, wishes and goals for the future as a whole. The vision board is intended to help visualize your own future. The background to it all is the belief that it is easier to achieve your goals the clearer you have them in mind.display
How exactly the vision board looks is up to you. There are no limits to your imagination and creativity. Some put the vision board in their diary or diary, others use a pin board, some make a poster, and some convert an entire wall into a vision board.
A digital vision board as a PC screen saver is also absolutely possible. Some even only use Pinterest for this and set up their vision board as a secret pin board in the app. But of course you can also make a combination of it and create an analogue vision board in addition to the digital one.
It is only important that you often have the vision board in front of you so that it has the desired effect. Ideally daily, or even several times a day. If you tinker with the vision board once and then never see it again, the whole point is a bit wrong. After all, the vision board should help you to always have your goals in mind so that they can no longer get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
How to use it for visualization
The vision board works on the principle of visualization. In other words: If you can clearly see in front of your inner eye how you are achieving your goals, then you actually achieve it. The principle is based on the fact that our thoughts influence our actions. If we always have our goals in mind with the help of the vision board, then our thoughts revolve around them. That in turn motivates us to act and through the act one ultimately fulfills one’s goals. The vision board functions as a daily reminder and daily motivation.
Another benefit of the vision board is that it forces us to be clear about what we want to achieve. The clearer our ideas and goals are, the more focused we can work on them.
If many things occur at the same time in everyday life, the vision board also serves as a decision-making aid: It reminds us of what is really important to us and what we should make accordingly a priority.
With the vision board, we not only have a clear goal in mind, we also allow ourselves to be distracted less often.
Steps to create a vision board
1 # Make it clear what your wishes are
If you don’t have a goal in mind, you can’t hit it either. In the first step it is therefore important to note down all of your wishes. It’s hard to believe, but most people don’t even know what they really want. They have vague ideas about a “happier life” and what it should look like, but they are not exactly sure.
They then believe, for example, that they would like to advance in their profession. When they are promoted, however, they notice that they no longer have time for the tasks that they actually enjoyed doing so much and that their private life is neglected. Perhaps their real desire was simply a higher income and they thought promotion would be the way to get there.
So it is important that in the first step you don’t let yourself be tempted to think about how you are going to fulfill your dreams. Otherwise you will fall into the ‘wrong conclusions’ trap. Just because you want more money, you might not want a promotion.
The vision board is only about knowing what you want to achieve.
So: dream big and write everything down. These can also be dreams that may seem unrealistic at first. The vision board should motivate. It takes big dreams that will make you jump out of bed in the morning. The bigger the better!
We are very quick to classify our dreams as unrealistic. Often this is not the case! Most people overestimate what they can achieve in one year, but dramatically underestimate what they can achieve in five or ten years.
# 2 define areas of life
The next step is to assign all of these dreams to different areas of life. The whole point is that in the end you have a rounded overall picture in which no area of life is forgotten.
Sometimes you only realize what you really want at this step. If you look closely at the different areas of life, you will also notice in which one is dissatisfied. Then you can think about what you want instead.
You can define these areas of life for yourself. A couple of examples are:
- job
- partnership
- Family and / or children
- Friendships
- Finances
- health
- Hobbies / projects
- to travel
- Personality development

# 3 The arrangement of areas of life (optional)
As I said, there are no regulations for the Visionboard. The way you like it, it works for you too. However, some people divide their vision board according to the basics of Feng Shui Bagua. That means: The different areas of life get a very specific place on the vision board.
The Feng Shui Bagua is, so to speak, the basis of Feng Shui. According to the teaching, all objects have a certain energy that flows through them. In the bagua, the objects are arranged in such a way that the energy can flow optimally. With the Feng Shui Bagua the effect of the vision board should be strengthened through an optimal flow of energy.
The areas of life according to Feng Shui Bagua are:
1. Wealth & Abundance
2. Recognition & Fame
3. Partnership & Relationships
4. Family & Health
5. Thai Chi / Middle
6. Children & Creativity
7. Knowledge & Wisdom
8. Career & Life path
9. Helpful friends
The correct arrangement of the living areas for the vision board is as follows: Divide your vision board into nine equally sized parts. Then arrange the listed areas in sequence on the vision board. Starts at the top left and ends at the bottom right. The middle (the Thai Chi), which mirrors you, should actually be in the middle of the vision board.
# 4 Gather inspiration
Now comes the pleasant part, which is a lot of fun especially for creative people. You can collect images that reflect your dreams and goals. You can use Pinterest for this and print out the images, or you can buy magazines and cut out certain images. It is only important that you personally like the pictures and that they arouse beautiful emotions in you. When you look at your collage afterwards, it should motivate you and show you what your life should look like later.
If you want, you can also add strong words, meaningful quotes or sayings and distribute them on the collage. Here, too, it is important that the sayings / words motivate you.
