Recently I had started using a beetroot to make powder blush out of it, but that did not lead to the desired result. A pity, but at least it was nice to give it a try. What did work was a lipstick of red beets! While I was peeling that beetroot, my hand slowly but surely turned red-purple from the juice and the stains did not go off so easily when I was washing it. A reddish color that doesn’t go so easily … OMG, you can make make-up out of this … you can make your own DIY blush and lipstick!
I thought myself a genius at that time. A round of Pinterest soon taught me that I was not, because juice from beetroot is nothing new in the field of DIY makeup. Today I will show you how to make a 100% natural, vegan, cheap and long-lasting lip & cheek stain in a ridiculously simple way to to make your own DIY blush and lipstick.
How to make lipstick last longer
METHOD
You need three things: an organic beetroot, small lockable boxes and a juicer. Wash the beetroot, cut it into pieces, make it into juice in the juicer and collect it. Divide the juice over the boxes. You keep one in the fridge and the rest is allowed in the freezer. Ready! I said it was simple …
If you do not have a juicer you can peel the beet, grate it and cook with some water in a sealed pan. Then you sieve the water, catch it and divide it over the boxes. Also in this case one goes in the fridge and the rest you freeze.
A box of beet juice can be kept for about one week and then you can take another box out of the freezer. At the bottom of the line it is therefore a little less practical than a lip & cheek stain from the store, but it is healthier, better for the environment and the result is impressive.
THE RESULT
You use this lip & cheek stain by taking some juice (a drop around) with a brush or with your finger and distributing it over your cheeks where you would normally blush or over your lips. On your cheeks, tap it gently with your ring finger (because then you will not tap too hard). Rub it on your lips until your skin absorbs it. The effect is not obvious, but subtle and for an everyday look this is perfect.
It gives you that little bit more color and especially on the cheeks it stays on all day. You do not have to walk around with a box of juice in your bag with the risk that it will leak. It fades on your lips after about four hours, but at least it lasts longer than most lipsticks and certainly longer than lip gloss.
