What are the best ways to tell fake or genuine Ray-Ban sunglasses? Our illustrated guide lists the clues to check to avoid being fooled by fakes.
There is probably no brand of sunglasses that can compete with Ray-Ban. After more than 70 years in the business, Ray-Ban is experiencing legendary popularity and attention, especially when it comes to the Ray-Ban Aviator and Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses.
However, the hype and success of the Ray-Ban sunglasses is not surprising: the unique design of the classic Ray-Ban Aviator aviator glasses is unmistakable. It was the same with the first sale in 1937 and it is still the same today. Because of their popularity, Ray-Ban sunglasses are often offered as fakes.

Models with plastic lenses
The original Ray Ban lettering is printed on the lens with white color. If it can be scratched off with your fingernail, then it is a fake — which is one of the best ways to tell fake or genuine Ray-Ban sunglasses.
An additional “P” behind the lettering means that the glasses are polarized. You can see the polarization by looking at the glasses at a distance from the glasses and looking at the mirroring of a lamp. When the glasses are moved, the intensity of this reflection changes. The polarizing glasses from Ray Ban are also always non-reflective on the inner surface of the glass. The reflection of the light is therefore slightly bluish to purple. If not, it is a plagiarism.
With a continuous visor (right and left glass consist of one piece), no RB is printed.
In the case of two individual glasses, the RB symbol is only printed on the inside of the left glass. It is usually a light color, so that you can only see the sign in the light reflection. The color cannot be easily scratched off with a fingernail.

The sign RB is engraved (not printed) in the middle of the left side of the temple in the middle of the frame. The right glass is without engraving.
Ray-Ban Sunglasses Decal Sticker
With the exception of polarizing glasses, plastic glasses do not have a sticker. Polarizing glasses have a rectangular red / white sticker with black letters.
From the 2010 collection, the sticker is round, silver-gray and with black “Ray Ban” and “Polarized” prints. In addition, a red emblem in the form of a spectacle lens (teardrop / pilot shape) with a white P printed on it.
When delivered, silicate glasses have a gold sticker with black printing. G15 are green-gray glasses, B15 are brown glasses.
It is important that the circled “R” (for trademark or registered trademark) can always be found in the Ray Ban name. If this is missing, it is a fake.

Sunglasses nose bridge and nose pad
In the case of metal glasses, the nose pads (pads) are usually made of transparent, clear plastic with a metal core into which the RB symbol is stamped.
For glasses before 1999, “BL” is stamped into the nose piece of metal glasses, the plastic was not always clear, but sometimes also rose-colored or beige-golden.
When looking at metal glasses you can read above the nose from above: B&L Ray Ban USA, sometimes even a letter / number sequence afterwards.
Ray-Ban glasses temples
The temples are provided on the outside with the Ray Ban lettering, which depending on the model is engraved, soldered or sunk or screwed into a plastic emblem as a metal emblem. The inside of the temple carries a letter-number combination that describes the model number, the color and an internal abbreviation of Luxottica. The designation is usually printed, but also partially engraved on older models with a plastic frame.

Ray-Ban sunglasses case
The glasses case has the Ray-Ban stamp on the outside and is covered on the inside with a velvet-like fabric. The inside of the case must not show any bubbles or unevenness — this is one of the best ways to tell fake or genuine Ray-Ban sunglasses.

Weight of Ray Ban sunglasses
Ray Ban sunglasses vary in weight depending on the model. In contrast to the metal frames, the plastic models are relatively heavy. But the processed glasses also contribute significantly to the weight of the glasses. Our tip. Weigh your glasses with a digital scale such as a letter scale. Weight is one of the best ways to tell fake or genuine Ray-Ban sunglasses. Deviations of more than 5 grams from the weight given in the table could be a counterfeit.
