When the toilet paper is exhausted, the toilet paper roll remains – so far, so obvious. But did you know that you can use it to make toys, garden accessories and much more? We present projects that you can make yourself with toilet paper rolls.

Ideas for crafts from toilet paper rolls

Empty toilet paper rolls are particularly suitable for handicrafts with children. The advantages are obvious: toilet paper rolls are used in every household anyway, so they are very cheap. Toilet paper rolls are also versatile and easy to work with, and there are many ways to make crafts from toilet paper rolls.

Rattles and musical instruments

For a quick rattle from a toilet paper roll, you need paperglue or adhesive tape , small grains such as rice or spelled, and wrapping paper to decorate, in addition to the cardboard roll.

  1. Cut two circles from the paper for each toilet paper roll, the diameter of which should be about two centimeters larger than the diameter of the toilet paper rolls.
  2. Place one of the paper circles on the open end and glue the edge evenly to the toilet paper roll.
  3. Tip: Cut the edge at intervals of one centimeter to the toilet paper roll, so it can be attached better.
  4. Pour about 2 tablespoons of the grains into the toilet paper roll and glue the second paper disc to the open end. You can also reinforce the two ends with adhesive tape.
  5. Then cover the toilet paper roll with wrapping paper or other colorful materials.

You can also make unusual rattles and instruments for children from kitchen rolls. With a piece of wire that should be about twice as long as the kitchen roll and twisted in itself, the rattle becomes a rainmaker.

Play figures made from toilet paper rolls

With toilet paper rolls , cardboard , glue , crepe paper and paint , you can create individual characters with your children.

  • To do this, stick a paper disk, as described for the rattles, on one end of the toilet paper roll.
  • With masking tape and cardboard you can now add hair and clothing to the figure.
  • You can either paint on the face or stick photos of family members to personalize the characters.
You can also make funny game characters out of toilet paper rolls.

Tip: craft four characters of one type each, paint on a man-annoying-not-not playing field with street chalk and organize an afternoon of games with your children on the terrace.

You can also simply push the toilet paper roll in at one end from both sides, creating two tips. Depending on the painting, foxes, owls or cats are made from toilet paper rolls.

Desk organizer

For this DIY with toilet paper rolls you just need a box the size of your choice, as many toilet paper rolls as fit upright in the box, acrylic paints and brushes .

A quick craft project with toilet paper is an organization box.

Simply paint the toilet paper rolls to your taste, let the paint dry and place the cardboard rolls upright in the box so that they stabilize each other . If you want, you can wrap a string or tape around all the toilet paper rolls for extra stability.

You can now fill pens, paper clips, rubber bands, hair clips and much more into the toilet paper rolls.

Cultivation pots

To make growing pots out of toilet paper rolls, simply press in both sides at one end of the toilet paper roll in a crescent shape so that two tips form at the ends. You also press these inwards so that the growing potty has a relatively flat base. Pour soil into the potty and sow your desired plants.

Gardeners make practical growing pots out of toilet paper rolls.

Since toilet paper rolls mostly consist of untreated paper, you can simply plant them out in the growing pots.Tip: Label the toilet paper rolls before folding for a better overview when planting out.

Loudspeaker

For this project you need your smartphone, a pen, a cutter knife, two plastic cups and a toilet paper roll.

  1. Place the toilet paper roll horizontally in front of you and “place” your smartphone on top of it.
  2. Draw the outline with the pen on the cardboard roll and carefully cut it out with the cutter knife.
  3. Next, draw a circle with the diameter of the toilet paper roll on both plastic cups. Place both cups in front of you with the openings facing you and draw the circle on the left cup on the right and on the right cup on the left.
  4. Place the plastic cups on each end of the toilet paper roll.
  5. Select the desired music or a radio play on your smartphone and insert the smartphone into the cut-out opening – your upcycling subwoofer is ready!

This is just a small selection of the various possibilities for tinkering with toilet paper rolls. Let your imagination run wild!
