Strategies and steps to design a bedroom

If you have just moved and want to set up your bedroom comfortably or are about to arrange a renovation from the slumber country, planning is the be-all and end-all.

In advance, think about the style you want:Should the bedroom décor correspond to the playful country style? Or is the industrial look more flattering? A walk through furniture stores, the Schmöckern in catalogues or on the net provides the necessary inspiration and helps you to get your first interior design ideas.

If you have set yourself a design, consider which furniture you take from your old bedroom. Take the closet and bed with you, you can already make initial measurements to find out where you want to place the furniture. Before you part with your old furniture, you can also think about giving you a new look with a coat of paint.

If you do not want or cannot afford a completely new facility, it is recommended above all to upgrade the sleeping oasis with high-quality decorative items and bed linen.

2. Cozy and comfortable bedroom furniture

An open wardrobe is less oppressive.

In order to comfortably furnished the bedroom, the choice of bedroom furniture is of immense importance. Say goodbye to uncomfortable and edgy furniture and focus on a comfortable and cuddly look.

For this reason, the main focus is on the material: warm wood tones seem cosy and inviting. Light metal furniture usually looks rather cool, but can also leave a fresh and pleasant impression thanks to the right combination with fabrics and plants. Too dark furniture make the room look smaller and appear oppressive.

With the cabinet and chest of drawers, it is better to avoid oversized furnishings. These can take over the space too much and a massive cabinet wall quickly narrows.

If you have many clothes or generally need a lot of storage space in the bedroom, you prefer to orientate yourself on semi-open or open closet designs. In addition, you can use the space under the bed with the help of boxes as storage space. There, items that you don’t need every day disappear, such as the small suitcase or gift wrapping paper and crumpled linen. Also a bench or beautiful boxes in front of the bed offer storage space and storage space at the same time.

3. Lighting: The right light for a soothing atmosphere

Several small lamps set cozy accents.

An important factor to make the bedroom comfortable is the light. The most important thing is the colour and intensity of the light. Blue or bright light, as you know it from the office or bathroom, has nothing to look for in the bedroom. The blue portions in the light reduce the production of the sleep hormone melatonin and make you feel less tired. Warm light and dimmed lamps are therefore the means of choice when designing bedrooms.

In addition, the motto applies to the bedroom design: More lamps, less light. Install more light sources in your bedroom, but they don’t provide less light overall. This makes the bedroom look much more comfortable. To achieve this effect, you can, for example, install a dimmable ceiling lamp. In addition, you can also add these for more atmosphere.

  • Lights
  • small wall lamps
  • bedside lamps and
  • Candles

4. Color design: Don’t forget the three-color rule

If you want to comfortably set up your bedroom, the colour scheme is decisive. Too many different and bright colours quickly make the room look restless. Too monotonous colors make the room boring. The best way to choose colors is to use the three-color rule. So do not mix more than three core colours in your sleeping oasis. This provides a harmonious image as soon as you enter the room.

Patterns and one or the other eye-catcher are of course allowed despite the three-color rule and give the room an individual touch.

4.1. The wall color indicates the tone

If you want to comfortably set up your bedroom, the first thing you should consider is the colour in which the walls should be painted. Use earth tones or pastel colors to have a harmonious base.

A recurring trend is also painting from the wall at the bedside. Here you can either just paint the wall or give this wall a slightly darker shade than the rest of the room.

A special eye-catcher are also natural stone walls or brick walls. Of course, you don’t have to pull an original brick wall through your bedroom. In the meantime, there are also very convincing wallpapers in this look. Even individual wallpaper strips with an exciting pattern, such as stripes or flowers, have a positive effect on the cozy bedroom décor.

4.2. Carpets and warm floors

The carpet under the bed looks particularly cosy

Admittedly, if you live for rent, you cannot choose the flooring of your apartment yourself and if you make changes, you must first agree with the landlord. When renovating your own four walls, it is also better to consider twice whether the floor really needs to be replaced. If, for example, you have floorboards in your bedroom, this is not necessary. Wooden floors in a warm tone usually seem very cozy and inviting from the outset.

If you want to set up the bedroom comfortably, it is also recommended to use different carpets. Here you can also combine a little wilder and experiment with different patterns. As long as the carpets are colour-coordinated, the furnishings are thoroughly harmonious.

4.3. Bed linen and blankets

Of course, the design of the bed is especially important when it comes to setting up the bedroom comfortably. On the one hand, it is a matter of making the design look cosy and actually cosy. When bed linen, you should therefore make sure to choose laundry from the following materials:

  • Cotton
  • Terry
  • Silk
  • Flannel

Satin and silk seem less cosy, but higher quality. If you set up a modern bedroom, these two fabrics can be used.

Several pillows provide the desired effect for a comfortable bed. Two flat cushions and two thin blankets appear rather lean and flat on a large bed. Several cushions in different colours and patterns, together with a day blanket or an additional cuddly blanket, look extraordinarily cosy and promise sweet dreams. When choosing the day blanket or cuddly blanket, however, you prefer to use a simpler version, so that the bed in combination with the eye-catching pillows does not look too restless.

5. Decoration and Art: Less is More

design a bedroom

Be a little minimalist with the bedroom decoration.

Especially in the area of decoration there are a variety of ideas for the bedroom. When you design your bedroom, your own taste sits a big role. Therefore, when choosing accessories, you should not include all imaginable living ideas, but make sure that you find yourself in your bedroom in person.

Nevertheless, you can orientate yourself with different ideas for the bedroom at the decoration. We have summarized some tips for you:

  • Less is more: Too many small and large decorative objects quickly have a narrowing effect.
  • You can also place decorative items, such as lanterns or plants, on the floor.
  • If you have a backrest with a shelf area on your bed, you can also place candles, books or pictures of your favorites there.
  • Fill bare corners with subtle decorative elements, such as a narrow corner shelf, sculptures or a plant. So no corner of your bedroom looks empty and uncomfortable.
  • When setting up the bedroom, you can also use mirrors to make the room look larger.
  • Floor-length curtains, which are slightly transparent, complete the cozy look.

In addition, pictures for the bedroom provide a quiet atmosphere. But here, too, you should always keep an eye on the basic color scheme. Large and exciting images can quickly bring restlessness to your sleeping oasis. Choose more natural motifs, such as beach views or wide fields with rapeseed or flowers.

You can round off this natural effect with several plants large and small. Plants also improve the indoor climate and make the room appear larger.
