How to renew faded black clothing

renew faded black clothing

Everyone knows it: The new black jeans are faded after a few washes and other black textiles quickly lose their intense coloring. We’ll show you how to prevent fading and how to renew faded black clothing.

1. Black clothing fades over time

Black always is popular for clothing. Not least because black clothing is supposed to make you slim. But if black clothing has been washed a few times, then usually there is hardly anything left of the beautiful black. The textiles simply lose their colour. Of course, the market here has some special detergents for black laundry at hand. In the long run, however, they do not protect against fading and are also quite expensive.

To ensure that black clothing retains its beautiful look for a long time, you should try the following tips. This way, your laundry is guaranteed to stay black longer:

  • Wash black laundry only when necessary. So the textiles don’t fade so quickly.
  • Turn T-shirts and trousers on the left.
  • Wash at low temperatures and avoid drying in the tumble dryer.

2. Renew faded black clothing: dye

Whether a washed-up jeans or a black dress – textiles can usually be dyed as long as they are made of natural fibres or mixed fabrics. Synthetic fabrics absorb the paint only to a limited extent. In addition, a perfect result is not guaranteed for heavily washed-out clothing.

To buy dyes for textiles, it is worth going to the drugstore. In any case, you will find what you need there. When you need to renew faded black clothing, simply follow the instructions on the packaging.

It’s not just black clothes that you can refresh. Most of the time, manufacturers have many other colours in their assortment.

3. Renew faded black clothing with ivy

But it doesn’t always have to be chemical dyes that breathe new black into your clothes. There are also a variety of different home remedies that you can use to refresh your black clothes.

Our personal favorite is to refresh with ivy (Hedera helix). How you can refresh faded clothes with this home remedy is shown in the instructions below.

Good to know: If you want to make things a little easier, you can also put a few ivy leaves in the washing machine and wash along. Dark clothing is also refreshed.

  • For the production you only need to boil 30 grams of ivy leaves for 5 minutes in 2 liters of water. Then you should remove the leaves from the brew.
  • Get advice in the pharmacy on which ivy leaves you can use, because ivy is generally toxic.
  • After the ivy has cooled, you can soak your black garments in it for a few minutes.
  • After washing, then drain well and above all do not forget to rinse thoroughly.

3.1. Quick cleaning in between

The Ivy Sud – also called ivy water – has a refreshing effect on dark clothing and is also ideal for quick cleaning in between. Simply take a lint-free cloth or a clothes brush, moisten it with the ivy sud and then brush or rub off the fabric with it. Incidentally, malt coffee has the same effect.

Coffee and tea are also considered natural colour refreshers and can help to refresh black clothing.
